Bube Dame König, recent winner of the German Folk Music Award, explore the fantastic dream worlds of folklore, this time travelling by water. “Von der Quelle bis zur See” (From source to sea), the trio’s fourth album, brings together thirteen lovingly arranged and lavishly produced songs – including surprising versions of almost forgotten German folk songs such as “Ach Elslein” and “Es steht ein Lind in jenem Tal” as well as a spherical rendition of the iconic Volkslied “Das Wandern ist des Müller Lust “.
As they have already made clear on their debut album “Traumländlein” – awarded the German Record Critics’ Prize in 2015 – the trio’s musical horizon by no means ends at the national border. Accordingly, the new record features numerous songs with elements borrowed from modern Irish and Scottish music, and with “Heimkehr” there is even a song whose melody is inspired by the Turkish fisherman’s song “Dağlar gibi dalgalari”.
