Built around the warped charm of a broken Optigan, a forgotten Mattel (He-Man, Barbie) keyboard from the late ’60s, this record is packed with instrumental robo-weirdness. Drawing inspiration from Joe Meek, The Ventures, Jean Jacques Perrey, 50s/60s soundtracks, Stockhausen, The Shadows and more, ‘Intermission | Optigan’ somehow feels more human, playful, and alive than most music on Earth today. Not bad for a crew of iron idiots from beyond the stars. But what do these music machines themselves think of their new album?
