An electronic realisation of one of the most popular baroque classics – Antonio Vivaldi’s Opus 8, Il
Quattro Stagioni – created solely using a Eurorack format modular synthesizer by electronic artist and
composer Willie Gibson.
The record took a year to make – Gibson immersed himself in fascinating, un-re-creatable layers of
modular synth sound design, transcribing and recording one part at a time, no recall. The modular
synth setup used to make the music has now evolved, grown new elements and lost others.
Gibson really can’t go back and recover any of those sounds. They are gone. All that’s left is the
control data that placed them in order. Like the written score itself.
