Description

War Anthem Records proudly presents “EVE”, the fourth full-length of BALMOG! Like needles in your heart… cold and unstoppable horror is what this Spanish band from the valley of Soutomaior offers in their new album. This new step forward after the release of last year’s highly acclaimed “Pillars Of Salt” EP, continues to advance BALMOG’s personal approach. Black/death metal, post-punk, traditional metal, psycho-rock… it’s everything and nothing at the same time. After three pure black/death metal albums, BALMOG enrich their sound and creates a vast manifestation of extreme metal music.

The band states: “This isn’t an avant-garde or experimental album, there is no intention to innovate, we just haven’t set limits and we have put into practice everything we have in our heads. In some ways we wanted to recreate the horror that rock music has built from Sisters of Mercy to Mayhem, from Pink Floyd or King Crimson to Danzig or Morbid Angel.” During the years BALMOG have created a distinctive and personal sound while making a place in the underground scene, playing live and touring all across Europe and the USA including festivals such as PartySan (GER), Satan Unholy Abomination (USA) Steel Warriors Rebellion (POR) or Under the Black Sun (GER).

From a conceptual point of view, Eve is a vigil to human terror understood as the ability of human beings to create suffering in opposition of divine creation. “There is again a religious and philosophic introspection. The lyrics in this album are very hard and creepy, images of human madness reflecting madness and real suffering, sometimes not easy to understand, causing a feeling of anxiety, unrest and the incapacity to control darkness. Some of them are based on Portuguese author Pessoa and the theosophical poetry of Galizian Xose Maria Diaz Castro.” The visual art of the album reflects also that turbulence and dark atmosphere: “There is a short story by a Galizian author called Castelao, written in the thirties of the last century, which is about a skeleton with a glass eye.

Paradoxically what was a problem in life, becomes an advantage, since once dead it allows to see; it becomes the connection between death and life, the idea is absolutely brilliant.” That idea was the inspiration for the cover created by Branca Studio, which will probably turn into an iconic image. Again the production of Javi Félez (now also an official member of the band) at his Moontower Studio has been a key in the sound of BALMOG, seeking a more organic, dark and oppressive production but without losing strength and power. “We were totally obsessed by the sound of albums like ‘Danzig’, ‘Seven Chalices’, ‘Reek of Putrefaction’ or ‘Sister’ – very different styles and albums but with one common point: that opaque, dirty and oppressive production.”. The final touch and mastering was given by Jaime Gómez Arellano at Orgone Studio. Everything seems to combine to make “EVE” a true ode to horror and darkness! “EVE” will be released on May 28th 2021 as follows: CD and digital versions via War Anthem Records, vinyl via Blackseed Productions and cassette through In
Pulverem Mortis Prods.
